Ogun State Police smash South-West robbery gang

The Ogun State Police Command, on Monday, smashed a notorious armed robbery gang believed to be terrorising South-West, Kwara and Kogi states.

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, during the parade of the gang, arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) team, led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammed Tijani, at SARS headquarters, in Magbon area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Okoye said that Tijani led a team of policemen attached to SARS to Obele town, a boundary between Nigeria and Cotonou, where the kingpin, Adegoke Kasali, who claimed to be deputy to the notorious kingpin in Lagos State, Abiodun Egunjobi, aka Godogodo, was arrested with bullet wounds last Friday.

The gang was said to be responsible for the killings of no fewer than 27 security operatives.

The kingpin, according to the CP, led policemen to the hideout of the gang at Iju-Isaga area of Lagos State, where his gang opened fire at the police. It was gathered that during the exchange of fire, three of the robbers were killed while three other members were arrested.

Other members of the gang arrested were Kareem Mumuni, Lawal Waliu and Kemi Adesanya.

The police boss also stated that the gang was responsible for the killing of four vigilance members and three fuel attendants at Guinea Gold Petrol Station in Ifo in June 2013.

Items recovered were two AK 47 rifle, wealthier P22 pistol with 49 nine rounds of live ammunition, two cut-to-size double barrel, one hundred rounds of live AK 47 ammunition, 50 live cartridges, charms and two packets of Lexomil tablets.
