Man rapes minor, gives her N10....Court sentence him to 10 years imprisonment

For raping a minor, a Kano State High Court has sentenced 42-year-old Auwal Idris to 10 years imprisonment.

State counsel, Zainab Mudi, said the convict gave the minor N10 after luring and forcefully having canal knowledge of her.

Justice Tani Hassan, who delivered judgement in the case, held that sufficient evidence had been provided against the accused.

The judge said, “But for the pleadings of defence counsel, life sentence would have been passed on you.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the sentence was without an option of fine.

Hassan ordered the convict to pay the sum of N100, 000 compensation to the victim, warning that failure to pay the compensation would attract additional two years imprisonment.

The judge said in view of the evidence presented by witnesses, the court had no option than to sentence Idris.

Hassan, therefore, sentenced Idris to 10 years imprisonment, starting from the time he was held in prison in 2011.
