Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Tuesday morning

1. Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan has admitted that the discussions recorded in the controversial audio tape recently uploaded in the social media was actually authentic as the meeting actually took place. He was however swift to dismiss the reason for the meeting as given by those who uploaded it, saying that the meeting was held only to settle a disagreement between Fayose and Gen. Momoh regarding the election.

2. The All Progressives congress, APC has said that the collaboration between President Goodluck Jonathan and the Military ahead of the coming poll was dangerous to the nation’s democracy, especially with regard to the recent poll shift. The National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said this at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.

3. Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday refused to take charge of a suit seeking to stop the House of Representatives from holding a plenary towards the execution of impeachment moves against President Goodluck Jonathan and to sack Aminu Tambuwal as the Speaker of the House of Representative.

4. The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has warned that any further shift in the date of the 2015 elections will be regarded as a coup against democracy. The APC candidate gave the warning in an interview with journalists on Monday in Abuja.

5. Report says following the shift in the date of the nation’s general elections, there are ongoing plans to remove Jega whose tenure expires in June. The plan, according to report is to ensure the the INEC chairman proceeds on terminal leave as from March 1, and in that case, another person will takeover the elections’ project.

6. The Boko Haram insurgents through its leader, Abubakar Shekau has boasted in a latest video that the group will defeat the multi-national and the regional force that are currently preparing to launch a fresh attack on its members across the northeast.

7. The National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), has said that all existing Boko Haram camps will be destroyed before March 28, which is now the new date for the general elections.
He was speaking in an interview with AFP.

8. Report has it that over 82 Boko Haram insurgents were on Sunday killed in Damboa as they made to reclaim the town from the Nigerian forces.
