Governor Okorocha cheats death by whiskers

Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, narrowly cheated death Friday when a Mercedes Benz 200 saloon car allegedly rammed into his convoy along the ever busy Owerri-Orlu federal highway.

Vanguard gathered that the Governor was on his way to inspect some projects in Orlu area yesterday afternoon when the automobile crash occurred.

It was suspected that the Governor was driving himself and probably did not engage the seat belt, which ultimately led to the contact he must have had with the windscreen that lacerated his head.

Confirming the near ugly incident to newsmen in Owerri, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Katsina, said he was rushed to a nearby hospital in the area before he was moved to Owerri.

Mr. Katsina disclosed that “an accident investigation team” of his Command is working round the clock to ascertain the real cause of the road traffic crash.

Meanwhile, addressing journalists in Government House, Owerri, Okorocha, who was bandaged on his head said the Mercedes Benz 200 saloon car ran into his convoy and he had his head bruised.

He debunked the rumour that it was a gunshot wound, adding that he was in stable condition but needed further medical attention.

Speaking also, Okorocha’s personal physician, Dr. Sylvester Igwe, said the Governor had a minor laceration of the scalp, adding that what the Governor needed now was further medical examination.
