Aleksandar Mitrovic is facing a hefty ban headline-grabbing confrontation with referee Chris Kavanagh and the precedent may have already been set by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Fulham striker was sent off in the FA Cup clash with Manchester United, a match that they lost 3-1 after seeing Willian, Marco Silva and the Serbian star given red cards.

Mitrovic truly lost his rag at Old Trafford and shoved Kavanagh, leading to his sending off and the prospect of a lengthy ban.

While it’s not yet clear how long the striker will be suspended for, he could face a similar punishment to Ronaldo’s five-match ban for a similar offence.

The 38-year-old was playing for Real Madrid back in August 2017 when he was part of the side facing Barcelona in the first leg of Spanish Super Cup final.

Coming on at the Nou Camp with 24 minutes remaining, Ronaldo endured a busy cameo appearance after scoring a superb goal for Real Madrid before being booked for taking off his shirt.

Ronaldo then picked up a second yellow card shortly after when referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea adjudged him to have dived to win a penalty for Madrid.

It’s safe to say that the Portuguese star didn’t take his sending off very well, pushing De Burgos Bengoetxea on his way off the pitch.

As a result, the one-match ban for being sent off was extended to a five-match ban, with Ronaldo also fined €3,805 for the offense.

Rules in Spain state that such an offence will see a suspension of between four and 12 matches, the sort of ban that Mitrovic could be looking at in the Premier League.
