Football fans across Europe will be delighted to see that Euro 2024 kicks off in just over a year.

talkSPORT host Darren Bent was handed the task of naming his ideal Euro XI, and the former Charlton and Tottenham striker made some interesting calls.

England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland have been competing in their qualifying groups during the international break.

A total of 24 teams will be competing at next year’s tournament in Germany, while Italy will hope to defend their title.

Players from across the continent boast depths of talent, and ex-England star Bent has named his best of the best.

When selecting his XI to Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT Drive, he said: “In goal, [Thibaut] Courtois.”

In defence, he has: “Left-back, I’ve gone Andy Robertson, it was out of him of Theo Hernandez. Kyle Walker at right-back, standard. Virgil [Van Dijk] and [Raphael] Varane.”

When it came to his midfield, Bent said: “I’ve gone with, it’s an old-timer but still one of the best, [Luka] Modric.

“I’ve gone for a bit of a rogue one, just because I think he’s going to be the future, he’s certainly a player now but he’s going to be outstanding.”

“Jude Bellingham,” said Goldstein, but Bent replied: “Nope. [Eduardo] Camavinga. Real Madrid, French, fantastic. Kevin de Bruyne.”

He added: “My three across the frontline, [Kylian] Mbappe, left. [Erling] Haaland. I’ve gone [Bukayo] Saka.”

“What?! You’ve got no Harry Kane?” cried Goldstein, to which Bent responded: “Kane doesn’t play right wing. I’m doing mine properly, it’s him or Haaland.”

Bellingham also failed to make the cut

Kane and Bellingham are two of Gareth Southgate’s key starters, but have no place in Bent’s highly competitive XI.

The former became England’s all-time record scorer against Italy last week, and Bellingham’s appearance against Ukraine saw him make his 24th international appearance at only 19-years-old.

Both will be play key roles next year should the Three Lions qualify and will be hoping to put their Euro 2020 final heartbreak behind them.
