Kylian Mbappe will move to Real Madrid at the end of the season after a breakthrough was made between the Spanish side and the Paris Saint-Germain star, it has been reported.

The World Cup winner will be a free agent in the summer when his contract with the French giants expires in June.

He was previously linked with Liverpool, however, Bild, per the Daily Mail, reports that Mbappe will go to the Bernabeu.

PSG turned down two bids, the second understood to be at £154million, for the flying forward last summer in the hope they could convince him to stay. However, the report suggests their attempts have been unsuccessful.

The 23-year-old Frenchman is understood to have been a priority for Los Blancos president Florentino Perez. The report adds Mbappe will get a whopping £41.5m-a-year wages.

PSG are said to be angered by Real Madrid’s pursuit of Mbappe and it could spice things up when the two sides meet each other in the last-16 of the Champions League in Feburary.

In August, PSG sporting director Leonardo accused Real Madrid of ‘illegal’ behaviour, accusing them of directly contacting Mbappe and his representatives.

“For the last two years, Real Madrid have been behaving like this, it is not correct, illegal even because they contacted the player. It is unacceptable for us, because it is not correct,” Leonardo said.

“It is proof of the strategy: an offer comes one year before the end of his contract and seven days before the end of the window.

“They want us to reject, to show to Kylian that they tried everything and to start negotiating for next year.”

Mbappe joined PSG on an initial loan move from Monaco in 2017 before completing a £166m permanent switch a year later.

He’s been a revelation in the French capital, scoring 151 goals in 199 matches as well as recording 77 assists.

PSG look set to win the Ligue 1 title this season, something Mbappe has already won four times previously.

The Champions League is the only trophy available to French clubs that’s evaded him so far, Mbappe unable to prevent PSG from losing to Bayern Munich in the 2020 final.
