Alan Brazil has apologised to Ange Postecoglou after doubting his credentials as Celtic manager.

The Australian head coach was appointed last summer amid skepticism from pundits in the game, including the talkSPORT Breakfast host.

However Postecoglou has been the mastermind behind a truly impressive campaign for the Bhoys who won the Scottish League Cup in December, before winning the Scottish title this week.

Such an achievement has been even greater considering the challenge put forward from Rangers, but at the start of the campaign, Brazil was not convinced that the Australian was the man for the job.

Speaking last year, he said: “Celtic have applied for exemption with UEFA for Yokohama Marinos boss, what is it, Postecooglou? (sic), to manage in Europe.

“He does not hold the required licence – oh, this has got to be a wind-up.”

Asked how he’d fare, Brazil sarcastically replied: “Oh, he’d be a great manager. Where do they come up with these guys from?”

However after seeing Celtic secure the Scottish title on Wednesday night, Brazil was quick to share an apology.

He said: “Listen, I am delighted. I like eating humble pie and I’m delighted.

“I will apologise live, now. Ange, different class. What a job you’ve done. It’s fantastic and I take it all back!

“It was the same when Arsene Wenger came and I went ‘who?’ I didn’t know who they were and obviously David Dein had a lot to do with that and someone has spotted the talent and brought him over and he’s loved every minute of it.

“I was beginning to wonder, when I was playing in Australia, did I play against him all those years ago in 88/89?

“I am not reversing, I hold my hands up and I apologise.”

With Celtic winning the league title and Rangers set to take part in next week’s Europa League final, it means that Scotland could have two representatives in next season’s Champions League, something that Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst believes would be ‘amazing’ for Scottish football.

He told talkSPORT: “It would be fantastic because I remember when Barcelona played Champions League football against Celtic, but for both clubs to be in with Europe’s elite, that’s what you want.

“It’s not easy to play in Europe against the biggest teams and we’ve seen this season that to reach the final against opponents who play in the big leagues in Europe, it’s quite impossible.

“We’ve done it and we’re very happy with it, so the prospect of having two teams in the Champions League next year for Scottish football would be amazing.”
