Chelsea star Mason Mount’s future at the club is up in the air following a breakdown in talks over a new deal.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for the Blues since he broke into the first team in 2019.

His current contract at Stamford Bridge expires next summer and he is said to have been in talks over a new deal for some time now.

However, it doesn’t yet look as though an agreement between him and the club is in sight.

The Daily Mail have reported that Chelsea and Mount are some distance apart in negotiations.

Reports in November revealed that the Cobham academy graduate rejected a new £200,000-per-week contract at the club.

Mount is said to be keen to ‘treble’ his current deal which is worth £80,000-per-week.

However, Chelsea are thought to be offering him much less than the contracts of their top earners such as Raheem Sterling.

Despite the current status of such talks, negotiations are set to recommence.

Mount has struggled so far this season having amassed just three goals and six assists in all competitions.

It is a far cry from his form in the previous campaign which saw him acquire 29 goal contributions for the club.

Chelsea spent close to £300million in the January transfer window on eight new signings.

Mount could soon be competing for a starting spot in the side, especially with the £106.8m arrival of fellow midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

Although Mount’s future may be unclear, one thing that’s certain is that the Blues must significantly improve in the rest of the season as they sit ninth in the Premier League table.
