The frontrunners are emerging for the newly vacant Leeds job, but two big names have effectively been ruled out.

Jesse Marsch was sacked on Monday following a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, to leave them just once place above the relegation zone.

The club will want to move swiftly to hire a replacement with 18 games left to play, starting with Manchester United on Wednesday – with commentary exclusively live on talkSPORT.

talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook gave an update on their search for a new boss on Tuesday morning and the current state of play.

Crook told Breakfast: “I heard a Leeds fan talking with you a few minutes ago talking about Pochettino. I don’t want to shatter their thunder… but absolutely no chance that Mauricio Pochettino will take this job.

“Carlos Corberan is the name mentioned to me when I reported on Jesse Marsch’s departure. He has history with the football club and was part of the back room team.

“He has only just started at West Brom and what a job he’s done there to take them up the division.

“It’s not the most stable football club and he may see this as a decent opportunity to move on.

“The other name that came out last night was that of Andoni Iraola, who is at Rayo Vallecano in Spain.

“At the moment, I would make Corberan the front runner, if he wanted the job.”

One other name mentioned is Celtic boss Ange Postegcoglou, who is leading them to another Scottish Premiership title.

Ally McCoist asked: “Would big Ange Postecoglou come into it? He’s doing very well at Celtic and must be attracting interest at Leeds, I would have thought?”

Crook replied: “He’s certainly attracting interest from clubs around Leeds at the bottom of the table. The vibe I’m getting is he doesn’t want to leave Celtic.

“Would it be a step up? He’s done a great job over there, Champions League football next season would be a big draw.

“I think he’d be a difficult one to get out of Celtic. He might cost a bit to get him out of Celtic too.”
