Beale won the Scottish Premiership as assistant to Steven Gerrard in 2021 and now he will be hoping that he can get off the mark in his tenure as Rangers manager.

As for Celtic, they have won five of the last six Scottish League Cups, beating Hibernian in the final last season, and sit nine points clear above the Gers at the top of the league.

Ange Postecoglou’s side head into the high-stakes Old Firm as favourites with their rivals without a League Cup title for over 10 years, although they are unbeaten since November in all competitions.

Rangers vs Celtic: What has been said?

Rangers manager Beale has admitted he would ‘love’ his side and Celtic to move to the English leagues.

When asked if the rivals would compete with the Premier League’s top ten, Beale said: “Here in Scotland, the finances we get are much smaller but we have two superclubs.

“The size of the fanbases and expectations are huge and comparable to very few in the Premier League. Certainly, it’s comparable to teams in the top ten.

“I think the Championship is very competitive because it’s very equal but there are no teams in the Championship that compare to the size and stature of Rangers and Celtic – that’s for sure.

“In the top division, all of the top ten have had 15 years of Premier League money. If you gave two or three years of that money to Rangers or Celtic then it would be very interesting.

“I’d love to see a day it will happen but if it was going to then it would’ve happened by now.”
