Rated by arguably the Premier League’s best ever goalkeeper and in touch with one of Arsenal’s best, life is good for Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsdale was in heroic form during the Gunners’ win over Leicester on Saturday, making safe after save at the King Power Stadium.

The standout stop came on the stroke of half time as the 23-year-old showed tremendous athleticism to deny James Maddison’s goalbound free-kick.

It left many totally dumbstruck as Arsenal clung onto their 2-0 lead – none more so than Peter Schmeichel, who is of course the father of Leicester glovesman Kasper.

Along with three applause emojis, Schmeichel senior tweeted: “Best save I’ve seen for years by Ramsdale.”

Schmeichel is viewed by many as the benchmark for all goalkeepers to play in the Premier League, however, Ramsdale confessed to talkSPORT that the great Dane isn’t someone he aspired to be like when learning his craft.

On the praise he received, Ramsdale said on Darren Bent’s Boot Room: “It’s like someone’s hacked his Twitter! It’s crazy and quite hard to explain.

“With Kasper being at the other end and Peter tweeting that, it was a special moment for me to see that when I came into the dressing room.”

And when asked if he looked up to Schmeichel as a youngster, Ramsdale admitted: “I’ll be totally honest, no!

“I knew all about him, I watched many, many highlights and save reel stuff on him. I wasn’t much of a Manchester United fan when I was growing up and started goalkeeping I think he would’ve been retiring.”

Maybe the reason Ramsdale had such a stormer is because he’s getting tips from one of the goalkeeping greats – Gunners legend David Seaman.

Ramsdale added: “Even just being at Arsenal and now having the connection with David Seaman – I’ve got his number and get a text from him every now and then, it’s surreal.”

Carry on playing like this and it’ll be Ramsdale passing on his wisdom to the next generation of goalkeepers.
